Surely you are wondering if you can learn anything in remote internships? Are you not sure if you will gain any skills? Do you think remote internships are easier than on-site internships and that they require little effort?
Well you are wrong!
You perform practical tasks related to your internship topic from the easiest to the most difficult, and they are constantly changing so you are not doomed to stagnation. You do not have a given recipe for how to solve a given problem, which requires your involvement and creativity. As a result, you gain not only skills related to the given issue, but also develop soft skills that will be useful in life.
From my own experience, I know that the most important of these are:
- Learning organization and time management
Nowhere will you learn how to organize your own work as much as in a remote internship. You don’t have a set time in which you have to perform given tasks, no one sets your daily schedule, no one coordinates your work on a regular basis. In this case you are your own boss and you take over some of his tasks: you control and coordinate your work, you motivate yourself, you set the priorities of your work and the time you have to spend on a given task.
- Developing concentration
This is an extremely important skill because it is very easy to get distracted these days. Working conditions at home are not always easy, we are tempted by all sorts of distractions such as social media and other household members. However, it is said that jumping into deep water will teach us to swim faster. In this case, the saying is extremely true: more temptations that distract us make us more resistant to them.
- Developing creativity
The freedom and independence on remote internships undoubtedly cause creativity to develop. The lack of a person next to us on whose actions we could imitate develops our own ideas and competences. Our creativity is also influenced by the sense of comfort we gain while staying at home. We feel safe and we do not feel compulsion and pressure, which may interfere with creative activity.
- Increased productivity
Interestingly, on remote practices, you can discover amazing layers of productivity in yourself. It’s all about productivity as a mindset, a philosophy of life, according to which we do what we have use for and apply ourselves to it as best we can. Suddenly we find that we can do more than we thought we could because we approach our tasks with confidence and complete them completely on our own. In my opinion, the satisfaction from remote practices is greater than from stationary ones, because we encounter more small obstacles on our way, the overcoming of which gives us satisfaction.
- Resistance to stress
- Remote internships strengthen our resistance to stress in situations when we suddenly lose internet connection, our neighbors or family members make it difficult for us to work or we simply can’t complete a task. In such cases we have to become resilient to adversity and learn to control our emotions. This is a difficult art, especially when we are alone and no one sees our behavior. If we master our nerves and focus on the positives, we have achieved success!
